National Level Refresher Training Program on ‘Micro-irrigation and Fertigation Technology Conclude

Recently National Level refresher training programme on ‘Micro-irrigation and Fertigation Technology for Enhancing Input Use Efficiency’ sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi was organized at College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani. At the end of the 10 days training programme valedictory function was organized at College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology VNMKV Parbhani on 2nd December 2015.  The function was chaired by Dr. A. S. Dhawan, Director of Instruction and Dean, VNMKV, Parbhani whereas Er. Somnath Jadhav, Vice-President of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd., Jalgaon was the Chief Guest for the function. Dr. B. B. Bhosale Director of Extension and Dr. U. M. Khodke Course Director & Principal of the College were among others present on the dais.
Chief Guest Er. Somnath Jadhav expressed the need of promoting low cost technology of micro-irrigation and fertigation among the farmers.  In view of the water scarcity in the region water and fertilizers should be efficiently managed through micro-irrigation and fertigation with optimum production levels for many crops. Director of Instruction & Dean Dr. A. S. Dhawan in his presidential speech stressed the need of promoting the technology to farmers’ field in the respective states. He expressed that the scientists should use the knowledge gained in this training programme for helping the farmers in their states and region. Dr. B. B. Bhosle, Director of Extension Education, VNMKV Parbhani said that University Scientists should introduce advanced technology of micro-irrigation and fertigation to the farmers and shared his experiences with the audience.
Course Director and Principal of the college Dr. U.M. Khodke explained the need of such training program and narrated the lectures, practical, demonstrations and field visits organized during the period of training programme. The guest speakers from various institutes and private organizations were invited for the lectures so as to expose the trainees to recent advances in the microirrigation and fertigation technology.  Twenty five scientists from states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Orissa participated in this program and shared their experiences.
Training completion certificates with momentum were distributed to the participants by the auspicious hands of university authorities. The participants expressed their satisfaction and appreciated the technical aspects of training program. They also shared their experiences with farmers during their field visits.  During the course, the participants were trained on the important facet of advanced technologies of micro-irrigation: crop specific layouts of irrigation systems, soil-plant and climate based water requirements and irrigation scheduling, fertilizer requirements and integrated fertilizer management, filters and filtration systems, fertigation concept and techniques for enhancing water and nutrient use efficiency, automation in micro-irrigation and fertigation.  The short course training included lectures/tutorials (theory and practical) by the expert faculties in the area of Natural Resource Management with an aim to meet the future challenges of water scarcity in agriculture and other sectors and adopting suitable measures for sustainable irrigated agriculture. During the programme, demonstrations, practicals and field visits were also arranged.
All the faculty and staff of Agricultural Engineering worked hard to make this short course successful under the guidance of Dr. U.M. Khodke, Course Director and Associate Dean and Principal, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani.  The function was conducted by Prof. Sumant Jadhav and ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Harish Awari.
